History of the Centre


Our Centre has been created according to the order #15 of 23rd May 1993 issued by the Russian State Committee of the Higher Education. First, it was named "Russian State Inter-College Centre for the Problems of Science and Religion" and based in the St-Petersburg State Marine Technical University. By order #3602 of 12th November 2001 issued by the Russian Ministry of Education, the Centre has been removed to the St Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. Further, in December 2004, its name has been changed unto the present one: "Russian State Inter-College Centre for Religious Studies".

Since 1997, the center is headed by Ph.D., Docent Alexey Nikolaevitch Shvetchikov.

From the very beginning, our work is organized in the following general directions:

  1. teaching and developing of educational methods (primary, in the field of the religious studies);
  2. research efforts in the field of religion;
  3. information collection and analysis on religion and the religious studies.
